About Us

Who we are

The Southfields Grid comprises the 12 streets bounded by Revelstoke Road, Merton Road, Replingham Road (plus Pirbright Road) and the border of Wimbledon Park.

We’re a community group on a mission to transform the Southfields Grid into London’s Front Garden Friendly Neighbourhood by increasing the number of planted front gardens and tree bases in the area.

We have been putting planting days and taking part in local events since our first planting day in spring 2018. At the end of 2023 we held our first every Christmas wreath-making event.

What we do

We run community planting and advice days and plant swaps through the year and take part in local events including Southfields Harvest and work with like-minded projects to raise awareness of the benefits of a greener environment. We’re also a part of the London National Park City Network and this year we’re taking part in the Great Big Green Week.

We also work closely with the Southfields Grid Residents Association and our projects have been supported by Wandsworth Council and the Putney Rotary Club. Green The Grid is also part of the London National Park City Network.

What we have achieved so far

The first Green The Grid event was in spring 2018, when more than 170 Grid residents took to the streets and planted 200 tree bases. Since then, we’ve seen a noticeable increase in front gardens and tree base planting.

Our planting days always attract a good mix of budding and well-established gardeners of all ages and levels of experience. Each year has a theme, whether it’s making time for nature, planting for pollinators or encouraging to take part in the Summer of Love Your Front Garden.

We’ve also met the London Mayor, appeared on BBC London News and been the inspiration for our sister project Merton Garden Streets.
